Marbled endpapers. Pages browned with light water stain to bottom third of prelims. Apart from these faults a clean volume.

An early printing of Melmoth's translation. 8vo, full contemporary speckled calf, the boards ruled in gilt, the spine with mult-ruled gilt bands separating the compartments, three compartments with a laurel and dove gilt center tool, one with a red morocco label lettered in gilt. 441pp, 6 ads. An uncommonly well preserved copy, the text solid and extremely clean for this printing, the contemporary calf quite handsome though matured a bit, a little tender at the hinges. VERY SCARCE IN CONTEMPORARY CALF IN COLLECTIBLE CONDITION. Marcus Cicero, orator, lawyer, politician, and writer was indeed one of the renown and most influential men of the Roman World. A most prolific writer and speaker, it is through him that much of the history of Rome is known.
