Alexandria, Virginia: Children's Library, Toyland of America, 1933. Fine.. Remarkably sharp first printings of these three shape book stories about a group of six Baseball Kids, featuring two Black baseballs. This rather surreal trio of stories features a cast of six humanized baseballs, and follows their hijinx in the off-season. Written during the "golden age" of Negro League baseball, this title acknowledges the talent of Black players while consistently placing Ginger and his sister Gin the Black baseballs in positions of inferiority to the white Baseball Kids. An interesting reflection of the growing popularity of baseball in the US. These shape books are in exceptionally sharp condition. Three volumes. 9.5'' x 6'' (vol 1); 10.5'' x 6.25'' (vols 2 and 3). Original shaped color pictorial wrappers, saddle-stapled. Illustrated in black and white, each with six color pages. Each volume with [8] leaves. Volume 3 covers a bit off-registration, as issued. Wrappers with a hint of edgewear. Notably bright.
