Descripción:
Folio page (12 1/2" x 8"), hand colored illustration, text on reverse side of page, archivally matted with print attached along top margin with archival tape. Usual offset from the text side, paper is browned, aged, and a little soiled, perhaps a little trimming; otherwise about very good. John Parkinson (1567-1650) was an apothecary and herbalist, and was so well respected in his field that he was consulted on the first Pharmacopoeia Londinensis by the College of Physicians. He had a keen interest in gardening, which led to the publication of his first work, Paradisi in Sole Paradisus Terrestris; or. A Garden of All Sorts of Pleasant Flowers, in 1629. This plate (page 403), which features illustrations of several flowers, is from that work. ODB.
