Boards have light edgewear with corner crushing and notable marking to boards. Heavy tanning to spine, which has mild crushing to ends. Moderate water stains to boards. Book has forward lean. Tightly bound, decorated endpapers. Early printing of this 1931 Newbery Honor book with twelve full page plates plus two-page color map of island. With elements of racial stereotypes, this title tells the story of a dollhouse and its inhabitants lost at sea who eventually end up on an island. "Dinah the Cook was jointed, but her head wouldn't turn. She was made of wood, painted black, with big whites to her eyes, and a red mouth as round as a berry." Dinah is also envious of Mrs. Doll's yellow hair, but in due course she admits that "I'm ashamed of wearing Mrs. Doll's wig. I always wanted to, but I haven't really enjoyed it. It just makes me feel blacker." ; MCF04431; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 265 pp .

A former owner has written her name and address on the free front end paper, but there are no other marks, and just a few indications of previous use. The 13 black and white plates, and double-page coloured map are present. The black covers are also in very good condition, with no soiling and only minor wear showing at tips and corners. The red spine lettering is undamaged. The dust jacket, however, is only in Fair condition. It is corner clipped, and has three large nicks of paper missing on the front panel/spine. The attached scan should give a better idea of condition. The jacket is now in a protective mylar cover.

Beautiful fuchsia cloth boards with a full-page teal/fuchsia pastedown, are in very good condition with only a small blemish (upper left corner) and some smudges to the rear board. No edge wear to the boards or the spine. Corners show slight bumping and wear. There are some smudges to the pastedown and light rubbing around the edges. The spine is tight, boards are firmly attached with no cracking to the decorative map endpapers. Text block is solid. Age tanning throughout. Previous owner name on the book ownership page. Includes twelve beautiful black and white illustrations by the author and with sketches by Mr. Doll. The book was a Newbery runner-up. Some smudges to the interior pages but otherwise pages are in good condition with no markings, chips, or cracks.

This is an early copy of "FLOATING ISLAND" by Anne Parrish. 1930 3rd edition (stated); Harper & Brothers; New York. The book is beautifully illustrated throughout with 12 full-page plates by Parrish, a 2-page color map of Floating Island, and in-text "sketches" by Mr. Doll. Illustrated end papers. The book tells the story of a China-doll family's shipwreck and their ensuing adventures on the Floating Island. It won the Newbery Medal in 1931.Condition:Some very light soiling on the covers and spine; sharp corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. The pages are in terrific condition - clean with only a tiny, light stain spot on pages 98 and 99...no other issues found. Overall the book is in great shape.
