Paris: Librairie De Firmin-Didot Et, 1875. The book is from the MGM Studio Research Library. Due to the size and weight of this book, it cannot be shipped outside the United States. The cover has lots of wear along the side edges of the spine, including a two and a half inch tear in the cloth along the front bottom left corner edge, and another couple of inch size tears along the top and bottom bottom edges. Moreover, the cloth cover has almost worn off along the rigt side edges. . Decorative Cloth. Fair/No Jacket (As Issued). Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Ex-Library.

Paris : Firmin-Didot Freres, 1875. Leather. Very Good. 11.5" by 8". None. A bright copy of ths sought after and comprehensively illustrated book. With 21 chromolithographic plates and 350 engravings. Paul Lacroix (1806 - 1884) French author and journalist, was born in Paris, the son of a novelist. He is best known under his pseudonym of P.L. Jacob, bibliophile, or Bibliophile Jacob, suggested by the constant interest he took in public libraries and books generally. Lacroix was extremely prolific. Over twenty historical romances alone came from his pen, and he also wrote a variety of serious historical works, including a history of Napoleon III, and the life and times of the Tsar Nicholas I of Russia. He was the joint author of a five-volume work, Le Moyen Age et la Renaissance (1847), a standard work on the manners, customs and dress of that era. This book previously belonged to J. H. M. Springall and contains his bookplate. in a morocco binding. There is some wear to the extremities…
