Henry Colburn, 1828. 2nd . Full-Leather. Good/N/a. Book has pages sewn in. Pebbled leather cover with with paper title block pasted on. There is a tear at the head of the spine and corners are bumped. General age related wear. Map from 1667 inserted at page 16. This is one of a set of five.

London: Henry Colburn, 1828. Second Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. A very good five volume set which has been rebound in a quite attractive green quarter leather binding with marbled boards. The binding is let down by paper spine labels which could be replaced. Volume 1 has two bookplates including that of a college but there are no markings in the books. New end-papers. Some foxing especially to frontispiece of each volume but overall a reasonably clean set. Seven portrait plates and four folding plates all as called for. These Memoirs comprise Pepys' diary from 1659 to 1669 and a selection from his private correspondence edited by Richard Lord Braybrooke. [Please note extra postage will be required for this set].

Damage to the spine ends of Volume I with hinge showing at pp. 289. All volumes spotted throughout, heavier to start and end. Publisher's brown cloth with gilt titles to spines and blind decoration to boards. All edges untrimmed, later endpapers. Some spotting but generally clean. cloth a little worn to joints, chipping to spine ends, corners bumped. Very good. Following the first publication of Pepys's Diaries in 1825, Smith went on to publish this interesting collection of letters.

Contemporary full leather boards of diced Russia, rebacked to style in brown calf. Internally, quite clean, but for off-setting from the portraits, one portrait with small marginal stain; brown stains on pp. 239-243. Overall a very good copy.

Edited by Lord Braybrooke using John Smith's transcription of the original diary.
