Boston: Charles E. Lauriat Company, 1925. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Fine. Large 8vo. Pp. xi; 204. Frontispiece tipped-in (depiction of the Continental). Illustrated with nine other tipped-in illustrations, including the clipper ship "Tacoma". Bound in blue cloth with gilt lettering on spine; blindstamped rules on front cover. Previous owner blindstamp on half-title page. Signed by Frederick Perry, in full in ink, on half-title page. A particularly bright copy in a fresh dust jacket. Excellent portrayal of life on the clipper ships and nice illustrations of several of them. As a mere cadet, Perry served on the City of Pekin, the Colon, the Aculpuco, the Colima, the Granada, the City of Panama. Serving as First Mate on the Continental, Captain Clark, the captain became ill due to poisoning; Perry then sailed the ship from Rio to San Francisco, after the crew raised hell due to Perry's youth. He put them in irons, triced up to the spanker boom. That's a representative anecdote of a life fully…
