Fair to poor condition but with 49 of the total 50 tipped on color plates present (plate at page 116 is absent) and in good to very good condition. Four of the black and white plates are detached and ragged around the edges. Green cloth lettered and decorated in gilt. Covers heavily worn, sunned and spotted, spine barely legible and with heavily chipped ends, front hinge inexpertly internally reglued but secure, text block sound but not tight, text pages and black and white plates are lightly to moderately foxed but not the plates or the plain pages they are tipped onto, name on front free endpaper. . Hard Cover. Poor. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.

Illustrated with 50 tipped in colour plates, each with a captioned tissue guard, 8 full page black and white drawings, and smaller line drawings throughout the text. A superb fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth and gilt bright and fresh. The contents, with a bookseller's label to the upper left corner of the front pastedown (hidden by the dustwrapper flap) are otherwise clean throughout and without foxing, inscriptions or stamps. Complete with near fine dustwrapper that is a little rubbed at the extremities and mildly toned to the spine. This edition is enlarged with a new frontispiece and seven full-page drawings that are not in the first edition. The plates were bound in sequence with the story for the first time. In original dust jacket and pictorial box Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens was first published in 1906, in both deluxe and trade editions, with the plates gathered at the end. The "New Edition" of 1912 is in larger format, with new illustrations dated 1912, the colour plates distributed throughout the text, the text entirely reset (readily identifiable by running headlines in a large italic typeface), uncoloured head- and tailpieces to each chapter, a calligraphic title page printed in two colours without the word "Limited" after the publishers' name, and with untrimmed fore and lower edges. In the first impression, the map of Kensington Gardens is printed across the page, with a blank verso. Later impressions of the New Edition have the title page printed in black only and the company name given as "Hodder & Stoughton Limited": these were presumably issued after December 1919, when the firm was incorporated as a limited company.
