A newspaper article from 1964 by Geoffrey Moorhouse about the Swallows and Amazons series has been affixed to the first blank page. Nice copy.

In brick red cloth with yellow illustration to type on spine and illustration on front board. Top page ends tinted yellow. Top corners dinged with tiny spots of rubbing through cloth at two corners. Book slightly bowed, but nice and bright with clean interior and solid binding. Scarce jacket is unclipped($2.50) with chipping/short tears at corners and spine ends. and edgwear/nicks to ends of panels and flap creases. A couple punctures from rubbing along front spine crease.

Illustrated endpapers and black and white drawings throughout by Clifford Webb. A good copy, the binding firm, the cloth split and frayed to the lower spine fold, with small nicks and chips to the tips of the slightly faded spine. The contents, lightly toned at the margins and with some faint spotting at the prelims, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Signed by the illustrator of this work, Clifford Webb. With the exceedingly scarce dustwrapper. Signed by the illustrator to the recto of front endpaper 'To Robbie from Clifford Webb Nov 1931'. The inscription is to Robert Cleveland-Stevens.  Possibly Captain Bobby Cleveland-Stevens of the Welsh Guards. Webb illustrated the first two Swallows and Amazons books. With the original exceptionally scarce unclipped dustwrapper in a fantastic condition. The dustwrapper has been subject to some professional repairs, that are imperceptible externally. This story follows the Walker siblings and Blackett sisters camping in the hills and moorland around a lake. London: Jonathan Cape,, 1930-47. A rare complete set of this classic children's series First editions, first impressions, all in the dust jackets. Together, these works "changed British children's literature, affected a whole generation's view of holidays, helped to create the national image of the English Lake District, and added Arthur Ransome's name to the select list of classic British children's authors" (Hunt, p. 13). The debut title, consisting of 2,000 copies only, "sold slowly at first, taking two years to earn its advance of £100". By 1948, "the house journal of Jonathan Cape announced that the one millionth copy, of the total copies printed of the twelve books in the 'Swallows and Amazons' series, would soon be on sale" (Hammond).
