The signature of Blake flat-signed to the front endpaper shows above that of Dahl's to a personal bookplate beneath. The dust wrapper, illustrated by Quentin Blake is fine, save for a small nick to the head of the spine and has been neatly price clipped. The boards are free from notable chips and marks and the text blocks are immaculate. Overall, this is a fine copy. In 2003, Matilda was listed at number 74 in The Big Read, a BBC survey of the British public of the top 200 novels of all time. In 2012, Matilda was ranked number 30 among all-time best children's novels in a survey published by School Library Journal, a US monthly. Time magazine named Matilda in its list of the 100 Best Young-Adult Books of All Time. In 2012, Matilda Wormwood appeared on a Royal Mail commemorative postage stamp.

With bookplates signed by the author, Roald Dahl, and the artist, Quentin Blake, laid in.
First edition. Dahl's beloved tale of Matilda Wormwood, the precocious and magical child who uses her powers to free herself from her distracted parents and the tyrannical Miss Trunchbull. The basis for the 1996 feature film starring Mara Wilson and Danny DeVito, as well as the 2010 West End and 2013 Broadway musicals, which was made into the 2022 film starring Emma Thompson.

A lovely near fine square copy, the contents without foxing or previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the near fine lightly creased dustwrapper which remains without fading of the red lettering. A beautiful example of one of Dahl's most popular titles. Housed in a bespoke half morocco solander case. Inscribed by Roald Dahl in black ink on the front free endpaper "Johanna / Love / Roald Dahl".
