Illustrated throughout with Collins' comic strip in black-and-white. Bound in stiff color-illustrated wraps. Slight rubbing and sunning to cover. This copy inscribed on the half-title to artist Guy Anderson: "To Guy - Thank you for the art education ... [signed] Ray Collins". Anderson included a 1977 University of Washington Daily newspaper clipping of a 1977 profile of Collins. It's now laid in, within an clear archival sleeve. Collins got his professional start illustrating the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. He then began contributing to Helix, Seattle's underground newspaper, including covers, and comic strips featuring characters Cecil C. Addle and Dipstick. One sheet detached from staples, else a Very Good+ copy of this fragile booklet. // With a poem by Lawrence Durrell, an introduction by William Cumming, and photographs by Bob Peterson. The 16pp of text by Robbins constitutes the first monograph on thi s very fine Pacific Northwest artist, often mentioned in the same sentence with Mark Tobey, Morris Graves, and Kenneth Callahan. This work is also the first significant publication of Robbins', produc ed during his first stay in Seattle, in the mid-1960s. He had been working for a short while as the art critic for the Seattle Times. In this essay, critically about Anderson's art as it is, can be se en the beginnings of Robbins' unique style of observations and conclusions that would find full voice in his first novel,six years later.
