Descripción:
William Heinemann, London/ J. B. Lippincott Co, Philadelphia, 1911. Special Edition. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. This beautifully illustrated deluxe edition is bound in cream vellum. The book is superbly and generously illustrated by Charles Robinson. There are 18 tint-in plates that are thrillingly fresh and atmospheric together with many fabulously charming drawings and etchings. The vellum cover is a little down-at-heel with marks, scuffing, wear along the edges and corners. Both front and back covers are slightly buckled. The corners are very shelf/ storage worn. The bodies of the covers despite being very marked are resolutely strong. The front cover is bravely bold. The spine has a small open wound to the top right hand corner. The spine is worn and faded but is stoic and firm. The paper trims are faded, foxed. Inside, there are splashes of foxing through the book - but the illustrations and plates are enchanting, vivid and moody. The other illustrations are sweetly coy in their freshness. The… Leer más

Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott Co, 1911. First Trade Edition. Hardcover. Near fine/very good. Robinson, Charles. First U.S. trade edition as illustrated by Robinson, quarto size, [128] pp., in original dust jacket. Percy Bysshe Shelley's (1792-1822) "The Sensitive Plant" is a delicate fairy fable about ephemeral beauty and the aspiration to follow dreams when the reality of the senses fails. It was first published in 1820 in "Prometheus Unbound" along with some of Shelley's best known work; here it is re-imagined with the hazy watercolour illustrations of prolific children's book illustrator Charles Robinson (1870-1937). Though paired with Shelley long after his death, they are well matched, "his black and white illustration reflects the influence of Beardsley and Walter Crane, and his watercolour illustrations have delicacy and sensitivity, greatly helped by the four colour process early in the century as the alternative to lithography. By incorporating lettering into the page design, and in his… Leer más
