(RUSCHA, EDWARD). Ruscha, Edward. THIRTYFOUR PARKING LOTS IN LOS ANGELES. Los Angeles: Self-Published, 1967. First Edition 1/2413. 4to. Printed Wrappers with Glassine. Artist's Book. Very Good./Good -.. np (48pp), 34 b&w photographs (1 die-cut and folded). In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. "Thirtyfour Parking Lots in Los Angeles" is Ed Ruscha's fifth photographically illustrated artist book, and the largest in format of his self-published works of the sixties. For it, Mr. Ruscha presciently hired local aerial photographer Art Alanis to capture grand, bird's eye views of the parking lots of the likes of Universal City, The May Company, Dodger Stadium, and thirty-one more - all completely devoid of cars! An internally most handsome example of the uncommon 1968 first edition (entry B5 in Siri Engberg's "Edward Ruscha: Editions 1959-1999" which is also cited on page 141 of Martin Parr and Gerry Badger's "The Photobook: A History Volume II",…

Descripción:
[Los Angeles]: Edward Ruscha, 1974. Fine.. Signed second edition of Ruscha's commissioned photographs of Los Angeles lots, taken from helicopter by aerial photographer Art Alanis. THIRTYFOUR PARKING LOTS continues Ruscha's documentation of the unglamorous, inescapable Los Angeles, though at a significantly larger size than his previous books. Struck by his first sight of Alanis's photographs, "I couldn't bring myself to reduce those photographs to fit the original format" (Ruscha, interviewed by Barendse). Captured empty or nearly empty of cars, painted with herringboned or gridded skeleton outlines, each vacant parking lot lies in waiting for its lost inhabitants like the city's truest haunted houses. 10'' x 8''. Original coated white wrappers printed in orange. [48] pages. 34 captioned black and white photographic illustrations. Final image printed across two pages with folding paper extension tab, as issued. Edition of 2000 unnumbered copies. Signed by Ruscha in pencil on front free endpaper.…

Descripción:
(Los Angeles): Edward Ruscha, 1967. Very faint discoloration to the covers along the bottom edges, otherwise near fine in wrappers in an almost very good glassine jacket with a few spots of soiling, a 4-inch closed tear at the bottom of the back cover, a 1 inch by 1/2-inch chip at the top of the spine, and a smaller chip at the top of the front fold.. First Edition. Small quarto. One of 2413 copies. SIGNED by Ed Ruscha, briefly inscribed, and date-stamped "Jan 28 1968" at a book-signing party for this title at Irving Blum Gallery. Ruscha's fifth book, with thirty-four captioned aerial images of parking lots shot by photographer Art Alanis. A book of striking conceptual beauty and simplicity. Invitation card and small poster advertising Ruscha's appearance laid in; the poster, folded neatly in four, is an image of a Western Union Telegram announcing the event. Ruscha's work has become so much a part of contemporary art culture that it easy to forget how brilliant it is.
