London and Glasgow: Gowans & Gray, Ltd., 1923. 1st Edition First Thus. Buckram. Very Good/Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. 1923 first edition. Size 12mo, 7.5" tall, 419 pages. Blue buckram cloth covered boards with gilt titles header and vignette to the spine, top page edge gilt, other edges rough trimmed, with the dust jacket. Book condition very good, rubbing to the corners, edges, spine ends and hinges, the rough cut page edges are browned, offsetting from a bookmark in inner margin of half title, contents are very clean. Dust jacket condition good, corners and spine ends rubbed, head and tail of spine slightly nicked, a little creasing to edges, spine is faded and sunned, the inner and upper edges of the front panel are faded, most of the rear panel is faded, it is not price clipped though no price is printed.

Contemporary plain black paper over boards with black leather over spine with gilt-tooled decoration (most of which is lacking). Frontispiece is engraving of the meeting of the bishops of Dunkeld and Glasgow engraved by W. H. Lizars from a drawing by Wm. D. Smith. Added engraved title page bears imprint of Wm. Burgess, New York, dated 1831. Former owner's inscription on blank page following front free endpaper: Richard Morris Smith, 1836. Richard Morris Smith (1827-1896) was a Philadelphia architect and the author of The Burlington Smiths. In Good- Condition: lacking most of leather over spine; front board is partially detached; light foxing, heavier on 2 engraved leaves and title page; otherwise, clean and solid.
