"Als sich 1870 die deutschen Truppen der französischen Hauptstadt nähern, flieht er (Verreaux) nach London und findet Obdach bei dem jungen Bowdler Sharpe, der ihm nachgerühmt hat: "He possessed an immense knowledge of birds, probably greater than any man of his generation."" Library book plates on front paste down and perforated library stamp at lower corners of title page. Foxing is seen on the first few leaves, as well as the last two plates. Volume remains tight..
