Descripción:
London: William Heinemann, 1955. [Modern Fiction] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.[viii]; 284; [2]. Newly rebound in blue half calf with marbled boards, lettered in gilt to spine. Attached to the endpapers is the original publisher's red cloth spine lettered in gilt. Some very light spotting to edges of text-block. Presented in an attractive new binding. 'Requiem for a Wren', set in the years just after World War II, is often regarded as one of Shute's most poignant novels. Fighter pilot Alan Duncan reluctantly returns home to his parent's remote sheep station in Australia after a wartime injury. However, his return home is tainted by the suicide of his parent's parlour maid. The parlour maid is not the woman she pretended to be, however, and Alan is determined to unearth who she truly is.
