Pages have mild tanning and foxing throughout, moderate at end-papers, paste-downs and text-block edges. Plates are bright and clear. Binding remains firm, however frontispiece is loose. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Moderate tanning to spine with foxing. Gilt lettering is darkened. Mild crushing to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean.

A very good copy with mild sunning to the spine, some foxing on the edges of the text block. In the very scarce dust jacket, which has internal tape reinforcements and chips missing from the head and foot of the spine and one corner of the front panel. Account of the unsuccessful 1930 International Himalaya Expedition led by Gunter Dyrenfurth, which was plagued by bad weather, an avalanche, and other mishaps. Smythe describes the extensive preparations for the expedition, the Himalayan scenery, travels in the region--including a visit to the Pemayangste Monastery, and the party's successful ascent of Jonsong (24,344 feet).
