Solanas wrote this radical feminist text between 1965 and 1967, originally self-publishing mimeographed copies to distribute in New York (selling them for one dollar to women, two dollars to men), the text of which differs slightly to this edition and lacks the introductions by Maurice Girodias and Vivian Gornick added here. The manifesto opens: "Life in this society being, at best, an utter bore and no aspect of society being at all relevant to women, there remains to civic-minded, responsible, thrill-seeking females only to overthrow the government, eliminate the money system, institute complete automation and destroy the male sex". Radical feminist manifesto made famous by the Author attempting to shoot Andy Warhol at the Factory in 1968. It was originally self-published by the Author in an edition of 2,000 mimeographed copies. The First UK Trade Edition is considerably scarcer than its US counterpart and was published in the UK when the Olympia Press relocated briefly to the UK and when the Author ;eft prison for attempted murder. This is a VG+ copy with a former owner's neat name on the front free end-paper. The spine and red portion of the front panel is un-faded (and scarce thus). Valerie Solanas, who had acted in one of his underground films ("I, A Man") shot Andy Warhol in his studio on June 3, 1968 (he was seriously injured but survived). The previous year, Solanus had written a radical separatist feminist "manifesto" that advocated the elimination of all men. Near fine copy of this classic from the recent past. Though mass market paperback, the pages are tight and binding very good. Has the back photo of New York Post article on Andy Warhol's shooting by Valerie Solanas. With this copy is also a New York Times article, appearing 25 years after Warhol's death (from gall bladder surgery), about Solanas's marking up copies of her book at the New York Public Library.
