Illustrations include a photo of Dr Livingstone. Included is the front of what looks like the original jacket which has a sepia portrait of Stanley. Red cloth cover with Gilt Letter and medallion Map of Africa on spine. 551 Pages, 1.1 Kilos, 9" Tall. Cloth has much patchy fading and a little of the red has leached into the endpapers. Hinges sound and text block firm. No inscriptions. Pages & Plates in very good, clean condition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall

Blue cloth with gilt of outline of Africa on cover and spine. Text-block gilded on top edge. Significant scuffing to cover, notably down spine. Cloth fraying at tail of spine, head of back board. Corners of cover bent inwards. The letter B inscribed in china marker on spine near tail. Significant foxing to endpaper, with library bookplate on pastedown at front. Rust from paperclip at top of front endpaper. Hinges tender but holding, with visible ribbon and mull. Pages xvii-xviii, 1-30 slightly bent at top corner. Text itself in excellent condition, with occasional, minor foxing, and one marginal note in pencil on page 78. A bifold errata leaf is inserted at pp. 510-511 with changed text for those two pages. The first edition was published in 1909 and finding one in a jacket is rare as Ive only seen one copy. The 1911 jacket is also very rare and this is the only copy Ive seen. Dowd was mistaken in his comments about this book as there are only two pages on Indians and the Hancock expedition and Custer isn't mentioned specifically although he was there.
