xxiv, 342, [2] pp.First edition of the account of the three very important explorations by the Hungarian-born archaeologist Marc Aurel Stein’s (1862-1943) and of his researches carried out in Chinese Turkistan and adjacent parts of innermost Asia in 1900-1901, 1906-1908 and 1913-1914. Stein travelled through Pamirs, Khotan and Niya to Dunhuang, Suchou, Turfan and Kashgar to Samaskand and the northern and southern silk roads. In the present work, he describes his archeological and topographical discoveries, by showing artefacts like documents, art objects and describing buildings and landscapes (all illustrated with the photographic illustrations), showing the eastern and western influences.
