A near fine copy in orange wrappers of booklet. With subscription form. William A. P. White (1911-1968) may be better known by his pseudonym Anthony Boucher.

Laid in is a single sheet from the publisher entitled "About the Binding of this Book." 1/1,146 copies, SIGNED by the illustrator, Thomas Hart Benton.

New York: Modern Library, 1941. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Good. Presentation copy inscribed by Steinbeck to playwright Moss Hart on the half-title page. Good in a Good jacket, unclipped (95 cents), generally rubbed and with multiple creases and tears. Red buckram, stained at the spine and boards, generally soiled. Square, bound with some reading wear and a worn dark top stain, clean internally. This copy bears a great inscription from Steinbeck to another of the 20th century's great authors: "For Moss Hart/This book is touchingly/inscribed--/with pleasure and gratitude/for Lennie knows what./John Steinbeck." Though Steinbeck and Hart never collaborated, Steinbeck co-wrote the stage adaptation of Of Mice and Men with Hart's neighbor and long-time collaborator, George Kaufman.

A near fine copy in like dustjacket, bright, clean and fresh. Housed in a tailor made leather spined case. Inscribed by the author to the front flyleaf: "For Jules and Joyce and also Joan with love John Steinbeck." Beneath the signature is one of Steinbeck's irreverent flying pig sketches (or "Pigasus" if you prefer), generally an indication that the recipient of his presentation was a close and valued friend,or someone he held in high esteem. In this case it was Jules Buck, and Joyce Gates, with their young daughter, Joan.
