R.S. Peale Company, Chicago, 1892, 1st Ed 11.5 X 14" (oblong) in Leather. Gilt edges. 549pp printed one side only. This is a photgraphic world tour by John Stoddard, who was famous for his travel lectures and books on international travel. This is a large heavy volume of large format photo-type illustrations of the world as it was in 1892. Thus you see major cities with only horse drawn conveyances and people in costumes of the period, making this a most interesting collection. Covers heavily rubbed around the edges, backstrip separating and was held in place by tape, now loose. Both hinges cracking. First photo torn along inner margin and repaired with (now discolored) scotch tape. Nevertheless, otherwise the contents are very good. The volume is still intact and makes for interesting reading. Binding is tight. Pages have sparse modest thumbing but overall clean and very good. Profusely illustrated in b&w photographic plates on every page. .
