Four near fine titles in Collier's Front Page Mysteries series. No internal markings. Mild rubbing to boards and minor bumps to corners, otherwise fine condition. A handsome set of mid-20th century murder and crime novels.
Zenith Jones Brown was a prolific mystery author writing under a number of psudonyms including Leslie Ford. Her title, Murder in the P.M. is one of 14 Mrs. Latham and Col. Primrose novels. Cornell Woolrich was another prolific writer of crime and detective fiction which he published under many names, The Phantom Lady, being the first published under the pseudonym William Irish. Many of his stories were made into films including his, It Had to be Murder, which Alfred Hitchcock filmed as Rear Window. Husband and wife team Frances and Richard Lockridge, co-presidents of the Mystery Writers of America were the creators of the acclaimed Mr. and Mrs. North series of books along with the Lt. New York: Farrar & Rinehart, 1942. Two early Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin mysteries - satisfactory! Ex-library with stamps to the end papers and a few spots in the text. Bumped and rubbed with wear at the extremeties. Rear hinge loose, front hinge cracked with the front free end paper missing. The proud previous owners have eagerly stamped their names on the upper edge of the text block and several times on the end papers and throughout the text so you would not easily forget who this book belonged to. Jacket is rubbed with chips and tears, including a 2" tear down the upper front spine fold and across the spine. Spine is sunned, jacket is attached to a stiff paper backing with the flaps glued to the pastedowns. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Poor/Fair. Ex-Library.
