This book is in Very Good- condition and is lacking a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in generally clean, bright condition. There is some light bumping, rubbing and a couple of smal nicks and beginning tears to the spine ends and corners of the book covers. The text pages are generally clean but with tidemarking to the top half of nearly all the pages. There is a previous owner's inked gift notation on the front endpaper. "In a twist, Stowe places a man's quest for a wife at the center of her novel, emphasizing the importance of the decision for men as well as women. The main character is Harry Henderson, the youngest son of a New England minister, who recounts his experiences through childhood, college, and his early career as a journalist. Gilt lettering & black decoration on red covers in hand-made brown paper wrappers - which had kept this volume in very good condition! 12mo,474 pages plus ads. Ex- library copy - This is Volume No.65 of the West Bath (Maine) Library Association, with their label on the inside of the back cover. The unusual library label says: "N. B. This book must not be lent out of the subscribers family, and if injured, all damage must be paid to the librarian. No volume can be kept over four weeks ; two weeks additional time will be allowed by having it renewed. A fine of two cents per day will be charged for a book kept over this time. A violation of these rules will result in a loss of membership.". Other than the brown paper wrapper pasted on the inside of the covers, first free end paper torn, and the library bookplate, this is a very good copy.

There is a bookplate on the front and rear paste down and ffe has a repaired 1" tear at lower left bottom. Spine ends are frayed, but maroon and black binding is in fairly good condition. Book is quite tight but a bit cocked. Tips on corners are very slightly bumped. All in all a nice collectible and in quite good shape for a book nearly 145 years old.474 pages + 8 pages of advertisements.
