Both volumes corners are slightly bumped and edges are a bit worn, some wear along spine. Overall condition is good. Extra shipping will apply.

Translated from the French by H. Van Laun. Maroon cloth with gilt titles to spine is very rubbed. Faded to spine. Some splitting, tearing and flaking to edges of both backstrips. Good, sound copy. . Hardcover. Second edition. 1872.

Henry Holt and Company, 1886. Hardcover. Very Good. in x in x in. 1886 issue of the 1873 H. van Laun (translator) ""new edition"". Dark green cloth decoratively stamped in gilt and blind. Both volumes in comparable condition, with spine ends and corners a bit worn and spines slightly dulled, and with clean, tight interiors.. Vol. II has a small dent on the back board and its frong hinge is cracking at endpapers, though not loose. A good-looking set.

Marbled endpapers and page edges. Boards edgeworn with scuffing to leather at corners, nudging and some shallow splits at spine ends, and some general scuffing and smudging. Front endpaper of first volume cleanly separated but laid in. Boards open easily but binding is secure. Gift inscription dated 1880 on second colume flyleaf and a couple stray instances of pencil checks in margins, else text clean.

Leather Bound. Very Good. London: Chatto and Windus. Very good 3/4 brown leather and marbled boards. Five raised bands, floral gilt decor. , "LONDON" in bottom panel. First revised Van Laun transl., 1871, first printing thus. signature on FFEP; no other readers' marks. Marbled endpapers, top edges gilt. Brief scuffing and edgewear, rubbing from brown to tan along spine edges. Dorothy DOWNS's signature on FFEP. No other reader's marks. Bindings are tight. Octavos,, 531/550pps.
