Slightly raised spine bands. Gilt lettering and decoration. Marbled paper over boards, as well as marbled end leaves and edges. Light rubbing on covers, mostly on fore edge. Inked last name at top of title page. Volume remains tight and very attractive.

There are four leaves near the end with small edge tears and corner fold creases. Volume remains tight and very attractive.

A Victorian English novelist, William Makepeace Thackeray (1811-1863) was famous for his satirical works that portrayed English society. Thackeray only began writing when he lost his fortune in a banking crash, describing his journalism as "writing for his life". However he was a popular writer and became known for his pieces in various magazines and is known to have popularised the word 'snob'.
