Binding has remained firm. Boards have been moderately rub worn. Noticeable shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are bumped and a little frayed Spine ends are crushed, with noticeable splits and chips. Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

No date circa 1900, very good green cloth hardcover (no dust jacket) with gilt letter and cameo to spine and top page edges gilt shows some bumping to corners and light rubbing at edges, light soil to covers, some light wear at hinges, previous owner book plate at paste down, and some other mild trace wear. Combines for over 800 pages with illustrated plates. Very presentable copy of this illustrated Sterling edition is still tight and clean.

Slightly misshapen, water staining along bottom inch has affected covers and decorative endpapers.

Approximately an eighth of an inch missing from the spine ends and corners rubbed through. Covers have light surface and edge wear, with light scratches. Last inch of index ribbon is missing. Pages lightly and uniformly tanned but still supple. Pages clean and unmarked. No dust jacket. Carefully packed, shipped in a box.
