Internally there is a prize label to front endpaper dated July 1930 and some pages have a little ceasing to top corner tips else very clean, tight and unmarked. viii + 890 pages. Illustrations by Harold Piffard. Not dated but at least 1930 per prize label. William Makepeace Thackeray's seminal work which is a sequel to 'Henry Esmond', and tells the story of Henr Esmond's twin grandsons, George and Henry Warrington. Marbled paper-covered boards, with brown leather tips and spine; five raised bands; titling in gilt on black labels; page-ends are marbled. Clean text; 382 pages and 376 pages. Points for the First Issue. Numerous illustrations by Thackeray. Both volumes have a frontis iiilustration and an illustrated half-title page. Armorial bookplate of William Scott Dalgairn Moncrief (1858-1913), who served in the Zulu and Boer Wars. There is some minor spotting scattered within. Both covers have split at the spine; while holding, the book is fragile. Please note the condition issue; Quercus must offer this as a Binding Copy, in need of restoration or repair.. First Edition.
