Multiple owner names in old pens, pages browned and foxed and worn, bug damage to several pages - one page half gone. Front cover held on by one string, back cover and rear free end paper detached. Title continued - "With Respect to Order of Time and Place With Observations Tending to Illustrate Some Passages Therein." Ellwood was converted to Quakerism by the teaching of Edward Burrough in 1659. As a friend of John Milton, he suggested the writing of "Paradise Regained." PROVENANCE: Bold signature on title page of Robert Haydock. Haydock (1759 - 1817), was a Pennsylvania Quaker of some note (or notoriety!). Thomas Ellwood (1639 -1714) was an English religious writer, friend of poet John Milton - whom he may have inspired to write 'Paradise Regained', and prominent leader in the Quaker faith, arrested repeatedly as a result.
