Tobias Smollett (1721 - 7771) was a Scottish novelist, playwright and surgeon whose second novel, "The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle," was first published in 1751. This is volume one only of the two volume set published by John Day in 1929 in an edition of 1,000 copies and illustrated by Alexander King. Original black cloth publisher's covers with gilt spine lettering and gilt medallion on the front cover; the top edge is gilt. There is some wear to the top and bottom of the spine, one tip is showing on the top corner, and light wear to the covers. Still useful to complete the set. ; B&W Illustrations; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 325 pages .
