Descripción:
Kiel: Universitats-Buchhandlung, 1835. First German edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 8 satirical plates. 16mo, [vi], 264pp., paper labels over imitation leather boards. First published in London in 2 vols with 24 plates, this is only vol. 3 of 3. in German. It covers New York state & Niagara. This edition contains a new Epilogue by the German Editor & translator, Dr. Hermann Franz. "It is extremely interesting and rewarding reading. Such incidents from American life as watermelon eating, revival meetings, and the disapppointing behavior of a servant girl are well told, and Mrs.Trollope's remarks are not entirely unfavorable -Hubach p.65." Her first book. {Howes T357; Sadleir 3218b; Clark 112; Buck 204; Streeter 845}. The lithographed illustrations were produced by Winkelmann & Sohne of Berlin. Quite rare and, oddly, the three volumes are rarely found together.
