First published in 1869 by the same publisher, this is an early edition of Mark Twain's humorous travel book that was written to chronicle a trip he took in 1867 aboard the steam ship "Quaker City" to tour to the Holy Land with stops at various ports on the Mediterranean Sea where he explored Europe (Paris, Rome, Odessa, etc.). "234 Illustrations" The original publishers dark brown, blindstamped covers are in fair condition as there is wear to the top and bottom of the spine, and spine is split along one edge--the book is still tight, however, and the contents are not loose. The corner tips are also worn. The gilt spine and cover lettering and decoration are still bright.
