Very good+ in the publisher's original red cloth covered boards with gilt text on the spine and a gilt decoration on the front board. There is a prior owner's book plate on the front paste down. The cloth shows spots of silver fish damage none of which is unsightly. The hinges, joints, binding and pages remain tight and strong. Without a dust jacket. 362 pages of text with all of the points cited in BAL 3497 to indicate that this is a first state of the edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of Twain and two photographic plates.

"In it has been by purpose to present a character-portrait of Mrs. Eddy, drawn from her own acts and words soley..and to explain the nature and scoipe of her Monarchy, as revealed in the laws which she governs it, and which she wrote herself."

Bound in publisher's original red cloth with the front cover and spine stamped in gilt. Front free endpapter is missing. Page 99/100 has a minor closed tear to the fore edge. Previous owner's name in ink on the front pastedown endpaper. Quite a bright copy!
