corners and edge wear. page 43/ 44 has a bottom tear of 4 " that does get into two of the dolls feet. Some inch tears and chips to the page bottoms on some of the pages.

In this first book in the series the golliwogg was not intended as the 'star' of the show and he was really just a supporting character to the Dutch peg dolls, appearing in just over a third of the illustrations. However he proved so popular at the time that he became the central character in the subsequent books. In all of the Upton books the Golliwogg is presented as friendly and kind.
