Spine missing, covers worn, scuffed and have been re-attached with hinge tape , contents mildly toned, occasional light scattered foxing, some internal separation, former owner's name and date in pencil on front endpaper, contents are complete, and book is restorable.

In the 1860's Frances Fuller Victor was asked to write a book that would dispel misconceptions about Oregon. The RIver of the West, which tells Oregon history from the point of view of "Mountain Man" Joe Meek was the result. published in 1870. Copies of the original having become extremely rare, Long's College Bookstore published this edition in 1950, apparently using the original plates for much of the book, although there is a new introduction by J. Cecil Alter. A rare treasure even as a reprint. The dust jacket Long's used is quite minimal. Its white paper gets dirty easily and there are no blurbs on the flaps.

Exterior shows scuffing and handling wear along with edge and corner bumps. Bottom of spine has piece missing as well. Interior pages are tone due to age and foxing is present throughout. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings present. Tissue guard is still present in attached the frontispiece though over the decades it shows an imprint of the illustration. Full title reads as: "The river of the West. Also missing page 77-78. Pages have a bit of foxing scattered throughout, as well as a few scuffed pages, a few small paper patches from removed library checkout tickets. Binding solid, pages toned, some library stamps scattered throughout. Covers battered and tattered with splits fray, sunning, but gilt still visible, . Extremities lightly bumped with minimal tip wear. Numerous engravings.
