Upper edge orange. 128 pp. illustrated throughout with humorous pictures and witty comments on space saving, high rise living etc. Undated. Spine sunned and some loss of colour to boards. Binding cracked at front and occasionally inside. Occasional page discolouration. Many of the issues faced by flat dwellers in this volume are still relevant.

The illustrator's inventive wit provided the English language with a term to describe an implausible, ingenious, or overcomplicated construction or design. Between 1932 and 1933 Heath Robinson contributed a series of cartoons to The Sketch magazine which provided solutions to the challenges of living in a contemporary flat and using limited space to full potential. This series was the basis for the volume entitled How to Live in a Flat, published by Hutchinson in 1936, with text by K. R. G. Browne (1895-1940). It was the first full-length book collaboration between Browne and Robinson.
