Blue cloth binding with green wrapped drawing of racing grayhounds on cover and green titles on front cover, orange titles on spine, decorative end papers. Cover scuffed and a little soiled, some edge wear, corners and spine ends bumped, spine a bit faded, former owner's name "Robert M. Kenyan, Oliveora, Illinois" on front free end paper, interior pages lightly tanned, binding tight, remains of some sort of label at top corner of back fixed end paper.

Book club edition with strong musty smell, blue cloth with wrap around illustration and lettering in green is very good - with previous owner bookplate to front paste down and small spot stain at page edges along with some other light trace wear including already mentioned smell, in very good - jacket that shows some rubbing and soil along with edge wear including some closed tears, mild open chipping at spine ends and a couple of corners. Solid copy still looks pretty good of this story of a gambler was turned into a film of the same title a year later. 295 pages with decorative end papers.

The book is a first edition from 1933 and then the movie, starring Edward G. Robinson in 1934. Henry Berman and Milton Beecher both checked the book out!This is a fun book, a first edition of the book Dark Hazard. The book is well worn but nice, corners rounded a tad, no jacket. Henry BermanDuring World War II, Berman served in the US Army with the rank of captain and worked with Frank Capra on the documentary film series Why We Fight.Some of the films he produced at MGM after the war include Just This Once (1952), Torch Song (1953), Men of the Fighting Lady (1954), Bedevilled (1955), It's a Dog's Life (1955), and The Great American Pastime (1956).He won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Grand Prix in 1966. Attractive copy of Burnett's seventh book, a novel set in California and centered around a down-and-out gambler, his interaction with gangsters, and his love affair with dog racing - particularly with a greyhound named Dark Hazard. Burnett became involved in dog racing for a time while writing the novel, and even owned a greyhound named War Cry. Basis for Alfred E. Green's 1934 film of the same name, starring Edward G.
