Basis for an excellent film (Apache) that starred Burt Lancaster near the beginning of his career and demonstrated his strength and agility. It preceded his role in Jim Thorpe. It is a 1950 printing with that date on title page. First published in 1936 but scarce as a first. Tan textured cloth with brown lettering has one lightly bumped corner. Unmarked, tight and square. Clean, bright text. Price intact jacket has 2/3" chip at head of spine and light creasing along top edge of back panel but no affect of design or lettering. In mylar. . Later Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine to Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Small tan cloth hardcover originally published in 1936, this is the 1950 printing by Doublday & Company; white 3.00 dust jacket with illustration of two men in front of Native American dwelling on mountainside. Book in perfect condition except bookplate on first page. Dust jacket moderately edgeworn, a few very small (1/8") chips missing; now protected by clear archival mylar sleeve.

dj has edgewear, rough, but complete and whole, some rubbing as shown in photo, flaps glued down to inside book cover. Interior book is very nice, clean. Some tanning and library stamp on inside front and back cover.

He escapes from the prison train somewhere in Missouri and makes his way back to Arizona, where he is betrayed by one of his people, recaptured and sent off to the Florida prison, where he kills his guards and escapes into the Sierras. This was portrayed very well in 1945 in a film directed by Robert Aldrich, and starred Burt Lancaster and Jean Peters with Charles Bronson and John McIntire also in the cast. A fine, bright copy. Dust jacket is lightly sunned on spine, is lightly rubbed, and shows light wear to upper fore-edge and top of spine. A handsome copy. A handsome copy.
