Volume I: 809 pages, plus Knights 93 page "Biography of William Shakespeare" at rear, illustrated with 30 full-page, steel plate engraving and four portraits; Volume II: 777 pages, with Indices plus second part of Biography at rear, 21 steel plate engravings and 2 portraits. An important study of Shakespeare's life and works, based primarily on the first folio, and beautifully illustrated by leading artists of the day. Both volumes show overall general wear and rubbing, front hinge of volume one starting, aside from a tide stain to prelims of volume one plates are clean with minimal foxing. Hinges professionally restored, rubbing at the tips and edges, and wear at the bottoms of the spines. 51 steel engravings illustrating the plays.

Tragedies vol has 13 plates total, including engraved title page (the Globe illus); Histories has title page from Vol 2 and has 10 plates; Comedies has 21 plates including the other engraved title page (Shakespeare's birth-place) and has the title page from Vol 1. Spines lightly chipped and scuffed, some small rubbings and spots to boards, some minor scratches/scuffs to closed edges, contents very clean and tight. Overall a tidy, sturdy set.. Half - Leather.
