Descripción:
London: Jonathan Cape, 1940. [Biography] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (21 x 15cm), pp. 133 [3]. Photographic frontispiece of A.E. Houseman at Souldern Court, 1922. Publisher's blue cloth lettered in silver to spine. Untrimmed edges. A hand-written receipt for the book from Blackwell's loose to preliminaries. Black ink ownership of William St Clair to fly-leaf. Spotting and light toning to endpapers and preliminaries. Light wear to cloth, with some toning to spine and extremities. Very good. Percy Withers was a trained GP, but was best known for his ability to make friends. Perhaps his best known friendship was with A.E. Houseman which he explores through this intimately personal biography of his life. Ex Libris Professor William St Clair, British historian and senior research fellow at the Institute of English Studies.
