Bound in half black cloth over salmon buckram with beveled edges, a gilt facsimile of Rosenbach's signature on the front board, gilt lettering stamped on spine. In the publisher's plain paper-covered slipcase that has a decal shadow on one panel, a light scratch on the other. Of an edition limited to 250 copies, this is hand-numbered copy 135. Often cited as the greatest of bookseller biographies.Dr. R., known in Paris auction houses as "Le Napoléon des Livres," was more than the most prominent of 20th-century American antiquarian booksellers: On one side of the leaf he was a promoter of book collecting, rationally suggesting valuable books as an investment; on the other, he was a scholar of depth and wide berth who contributed substantially to the world of bibliography.…
