Philadelphia: International Press, 1900. A detailed retelling of the history of Venice, and a celebration of the art, culture, and people that has made it one of the greatest cities in the world. Bound in green cloth with beautiful gold gilding on the cover, spine and top front-edge of the text-block, and contains many black and white illustration plates throughout the text. The book is in very good condition. Minor wear to the top and bottom of the spine. There is minor to moderate wrinkling of the cloth on the right side of the rear board. All of the gold gilding is very well preserved. The text-block is bright and clean, and all of the illustration plates retain their tissue guards. Collated complete. This interesting work on Venice is written by Charles Yriarte, A French writer and traveller with a background in architecture, and was translated from the French by F. J. Sitwell. This work provides a descriptive account of the city of Venice, discussing its architecture, history and art as well as providing a depiction of life in the iconic city in the time of publication.
