Printed title page states printed by and for P.Youngman, Witham & Maldon. The additional engraved title page states, Longman and Co, London, 1822, 1st edition. Amateur half leather binding with marbled boards. Gilt lettering to spine reads ""History of Surrey"". 7ins x 4.5ins, marbled endpapers, [iv], 214pp plus additional illustrated title page, folding map of county and 45 plates. Lacks plan of Guildford. The majority of the plates were drawn by H. Gastineau but there were also contributions from W.K. Morland, J. Grieg, W. Deeble and T.Higham. Light foxing to the map, but the plates are nice and clean. Overall VG

Full leather binding (near contemporary probably) with gilt title to spine on black panel, and gilt decorations, with gilt edges to boards. 204pp followed by plate pages., 18 x 11 cm. With 48 b&w engraved illustrations in plates including two folding maps (of Surrey and Guildford), and an engraved title page. (The title page states 50 engravings including county map but this appears to be inaccurate ; none are missing, and other titles listed by David Ford Books in this publisher's series of county books also have varying numbers of plates). However, the binding (done for Robert Ward whose armorial plate is inside front cover) does seem to have ommitted a page of text as it finishes in mid-sentence on p.204, and the index. A very good tightly bound copy although with scattered foxing. Folding map of the County and folding plan of Guildford, together with 46 engraved plates (although the title calls for 48 plates, two were never produced). iv + 190pp.

Includes numerous engraved plates of local scenes plus two folding maps. Full brown diced calf with black spine label, raised spine bands, gilt decorated compartments, marbled edges and endpapers, 190 pages. Front cover, endpaper and preliminary blank detached but present, spine chipped, rear hinge chipped and tender, sound text block, pages clean with occasional light to moderate foxing, maps in very good condition.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Fair/No. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Owners plate with armorial device on inside front cover. pp [half-title, with engraving] + [title] + 214 plus folded map of Surrey, folded plan of Guildford and 45 plates - we believe this copy to be complete although title states total of 50 engravings/maps. Internally very good with moderate browning to those pages facing a plate, binding firm, a little wear to the cover. An attractive copy.

Spine, faded, raised bands, gilt tooling & titles, edges worn. Internally, folding map frontis, additional engraved title page, [3], (iv)only, [1], 2-214 pp, 48 pls (which includes 2 folding map & 1 eng. tp), a.e.g., red endpapers, bookplate to fpd (? Ratcliff), some offsetting to verso of pls but not affecting them. Originally published in parts (1818-1822). (96*159 mm).

Original printed boards, with a green cloth spine (possibly added later). Binding somewhat rubbed, some minor spotting else contents very good. Overall, this copy is in good plus condition.
