Inscribed by Steichen to Marty Forscher, who ran a renowned NYC camera repair shop and was repairman to a Navy photographic unit run by Steichen during World War II. Photocopy of Forscher's 2009 NY Times obituary laid in. Steichen had a long career in photography, as an art photographer, photojournalist, and curator. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .

Walter Thompson signed an exclusive contract with Steichen, paying as much as $1000.00 for a single photograph. Edward Jean Steichen, born in Luxembourg was one of the most prolific and influential figures in the history of photography. Signature front cover pastedown, very slight rubbing to spine extremities.

This copy additionally inscribed by Sandburg on the front fly leaf "Dear Alan - wishing you good traveling herein = Carl" A fine bright copy in black cloth. Its more than possible that Alan was the Rev.Alan Jenkins (1903-1971) who was a member of the Amherst College Class of 1924 later the pastor of the First Congregational Church Galesburg Ill (1936 and Sandburg's home town). He wrote on Sandburg and formed a friendship, serving in the board of directors of the Carl Sandburg Association. His papers are at Amherst.
