Red moroccan leather with gilt decorations on the spine. Marbled end papers. Gilt edges are faded. Common Prayer is unpaginated (signatures are numbered). Type is printed in double columns. The second book (A Companion to the Altar) is printed in London (no date). 55 pages, [1] page advertisement. Includes frontispiece. The third title page reads - "A New Edition of the Psalms of David, Fitted to the Tunes in Churches" by N. Brady. Printed in London, 1799. 90 pages. Two pages, [2] pages with title on front "At the Kensignton. December 3, 1696. Present The King's Most Excellent Majesty in Council." On the second page is dated May 23d, 1698. The first sentence reads - "His Majesty having Allowed and Permitted the Use of a New Version of the Psalms of David, by Dr. Brady and Mr. Tate, in all Churches....The printed name of H.… Leer más

London: Printed by Mark Baskett, 1762. 1762 12mo. Contemporary red sheepskin, rubbed on edges and corners but sound. Boards panelled with triple gold lines and a wide decorative roll. Spine with raised bands, gilt in panels. Some wear at spine ends. Ownership inscriptions dated 1765 and 1792. A good, sound copy.

Full Moroccan binding in good condition with gilded lines and gilded edges, 17,5 x 11,5 cm. Printed on laid paper, in good condition. Text in English. Former owner inscription on the flyleaf: A.M. Fagel.Beautiful copy of the book of common prayer in good condition. Crisp pages without notes and spots. With calender with the table of lessons, Morning prayer, evening prayer, christmas day, thanksgiving, psalms, forms of prayer to be used at sea, King Charles the Martyr, etc.

Hardcover. 8vo, no pagination, engraved portrait of King George (by J Stuart) and printer's title page facing, also with an engraved title page stating thus: "The Liturgy of the Church of England Adorned with Fifty five New Historical Cuts. Nutt in ye Savoy." with 52 engravings of the stated 55, and with an additional engraved portrait of King David at the beginning of "The Psalter or Psalms of David". D6 is defective on fore edge affecting text, D8 torn on fore edge margin just affecting text, H4 has a tear of 2 inches, and there is a corner torn on plate 48 but well away from printed area. Octavo. 406 pp. Bound in full black straight grain morocco, ruled and decorated in gilt, central armorial device with a crown over initials (A.A.?), spine with five shallow raised bands, titled and decorated in the compartments in gilt. Two bookplates, and an early engraved bookplate on the pastedown, and a later religious one on the front fly, contemporary binder's ticket of Hering of Newman Street, slight nick at the corner of the top of the spine, and corners a little rubbed, still a handsome, near fine copy.

BOUND WITH: A New Version of the Psalms of David, Fitted to The Tunes used in Churches. By N. Brady, D. D., and N. Tate, Esq. Oxford: Printed at the University Press. Sold by E. Gardner and Son..., 1849. 12mo, unpaginated, collating a - C12 D6, title-page in red and black. 2 volumes in 1. Bound by Barritt in black goatskin over bevelled boards, the covers with raised compartments, tooled in blind with gilt roundels, spine in six compartments, tooled in blind crosses with a central gilt roundel, gilt dentelles, all edges gauffered in gilt, with a brass clasp. Some very slight wear to binding, but a very good to fine copy. A similar example of a binding by John Little Barritt (1801 - 1863) can be found in the British Library's Database of Bookbindings (search for Barritt).

This edition of the Psalms is one of the finest examples of both the typography of Jan van Krimpen, and his Romanee typeface (in which this book is entirely hand set), on a very lovely Barcham Green handmade paper. Wonderful book and very scarce. Century for the Century, No. 47. Bookplate of Robert Elwell on front pastedown. Light scuffing to the edges of the front and rear hinges on the covers. Else near fine. Binding is tight.
