She was a Sarah Josepha Hale Award recipient (1959) in Newport, NH, given by the Richards Library Board of Trustees. Also, she taught at Smith College in Massachusetts. This setting: an Old Ladies' Home, fair-sized American town.

At 16 she scribbled poetry & short stories, at 19 she wrote children's stories, & on her 20th birthday received $25 for an article entitled, "Why I Would Not Marry My Husband Again."
