Cave's wry (or is it rye?) twist was to make Kane a pie-eyed private eye, who solved crimes at a staggering pace while fighting hangovers and hoodlums alike. Kane, the ace detective of the Beacon Agency, appeared in a popular series of nine adventures, written between 1934 and 1942 and appeared in "Dime Detective".
