Hollywood: Paramount, 1922. Original Photographs . Paper. Two original 8" x 10" stills of Rudolph Valentino. The first photograph is a nice close-up portrait of him. There are a few tiny light spots on the print due to the processing. Chipping to the right side of the white margin and a couple of old tape mends on the verso. The second still is a rare candid of him filling a pipe with tobacco. Small chipping to the left bottom corner of the white margin and old tape mends to the verso. Still popular 82 years after his premature death in 1926 at the age of 31. Sold as a collection only.

Hollywood: Metro Goldwyn Mayer, 1929. Original Photograph . Paper. A beautiful rare 8" x 10" studio portrait of Garbo. On The verso is written anna christie in a contemporary hand, but I think that its actually from "The Kiss" and although no photographer is credited to me it looks like one of Clarence Sinclair Bull's portraits. Faint line crease to the bottom left corner, otherwise a near fine portrait.

Hollywood: Metro Goldwyn Mayer, 1926. Original Photograph . Paper. Superb early & rare 8" x 10" portrait of Garbo. On the verso written in contemporary hand is Flesh and The Devil but I really can't say for sure what film this beautiful portrait was taken for. Although no photographer is credited I would think that it was taken by Ruth Harriet Louise. I've never seen this picture reproduced in any book on Garbo. Fine.

Hollywood: Metro Goldwyn Mayer, 1926. Original Photograph . Paper. Superb early & rare 8" x 10" candid still of Garbo and her frequent co-star and some say lover John Gilbert. The still pictures them supposedly listening to a prize fight over the radio and was used as publicity for their just released film "Flesh And The Devil." I've never seen this picture reproduced in any book on Garbo. Caption on verso. Minute chipping to the left white margin along with some small tape mends to the verso of the photograph. The image itself is near fine.

Hollywood: Metro Goldwyn Mayer, 1929. Original Still . Paper. Superb original and rare scene still for the second film to win an Oscar for Best Picture and the first all talking picture to do so. The film is the classic tale of two sisters working in vaudeville who fall in love with the same song and dance man. The film starred Bessie Love who was terrific in it and received an Oscar nomination for best actress losing out to the well placed Mary Pickford and Anita Page. The still is of one of the elaborate (for its time) musical numbers of girl chorus and the two female stars whose faces are faint. Set against an amazning ornate floral backdrop. Small rubber stamp caption on verso and tiny corner chip to left white margin. Beautiful and fine.

New York: Apeda, 1920. Original Photographs . Paper. 2 very nice original 8" x 10" photograph portraits of the silent screen comedian Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle who is most remembered today for the murder trial that ruined his life and career even though after 3 trials he was acquitted of all charges. Arbuckle was a major star only second in popularity to Chaplin, but after the scandal he was finished in movies. In the early 30's he started to make films again but his bad luck continued with him dying at the early age of 1946 in 1933. The first portrait is a close-up of him taken by the famous photo studio Apeda which I would date around 1920. The photo has wear: some creasing, chipping and a few old tape mends to the verso. The 2nd portrait printed on heavy stock paper is a full length one of Arbuckle doing a soft shoe with his bowler hat balanced on his extended arm. Hollywood: Nickolas Murray, 1923. Original Photograph . Paper. A beautiful original 8"x 10" close-up portrait of Patsy Ruth Miller who is most known for her role opposite Lon Chaney in The Hunchback Of Notre Dame. Ms. Miller also appeared opposite Rudolph Valentino in Camille and retired from films in 1931. In the late 1980's she wrote a book "My Hollywood When Both of Us Were Young: The Memories of Patsy Ruth Miller" which also included the history and reconstruction of The Hunchback Of Notre Dame. Nickolas Murray's embossed blind stamp is on the bottom of the photo and his rubber stamp is on the verso. Printed on heavy stock paper.

New York: Underwood & Underwood, 1917. Original Still . Paper. A rare and unusual original 8" x 10" candid publicity photograph of the great silent film star Douglas Fairbanks hanging off a cliff in what appears to be The Grand Canyon. The photograph is credited on the verso to Underwood & Underwood which was a very prominent company in the field of news bureau photography in the early part of the 20th century and was also pioneers in stereoscopic images. Fairbanks was of course one of the great stars of silent films who was mostly known for his action and fantasy movies ie The Thief Of Bagdad, Robin Hood, Zorro, The Black Pirate and many others and for doing his own usually dangerous stunts as this photograph attests to. He was also married to Mary Pickford and was one of the founders of United Artists and a true Hollywood superstar. Although not dated the photograph is most likely from the mid teens maybe 1917. Florida: Norman Studios, 1928. Pressbook . Oversize Paper. A rare beautiful 14" x 22" original 4pg. pressbook for a forgotten "all colored cast" silent film. The movie was " A thrilling epic of the oil fields" that starred Lawrence Criner, Kathryn Boyd & Steve "Peg" Reynolds a one-legged actor all of whom had appeared in the earlier 1926 Norman film "The Flying Ace." Based on the true story of John Crisp and his fight to secure oil despite the efforts of a crooked drilling contractor, the movie was filmed in the "all colored city" of Tatums Oklahoma and used many of the residents as extras. The pressbook features a nice yellow colored front cover that is a repro. of the window card. Inside is illustrated with blue tinted photos and advertising iteams. The back cover is text and includes press stories and other advertising ideas. Two old tape mends to the back cover, but this rare item is in fine bright condition. Folded. Fine.

Hollywood: Hollywood, 1922. Original Still . Paper. Rare original silent film candid production showing a film being made out of doors. There is a handwritten caption on the verso of the still that reads "Edmund Burns behind car side with hands in jacket." Edmund Burns was a rather minor and forgotten silent screen actor. The still has a few mended tears otherwise vg. and a wonderful image.

Wonderful novel about loss and the grief the main character of the book feels after losing his family in a terrible accident and his search for a mysterious silent screen actor and his own healing. One of Auster's best works. Jacket blurbs by Peter Carey, Jonathan Lethem and Michael Ondaatje. Fine/fine. Laid in is a 4pg.promo from the dvd release of the inner life of martin frost. Also included is a 2nd printing paper copy of "City Of Glass" which is the graphic novel edition of the prize winning Auster novels. The black and white artwork is by David Mazzucchelli. Fine. Sold as a collection only.

A reexamination of the infamous Fatty Arbuckle trail in which he was accused of murdering a young starlet. The scandal ruined his bigger than life career and left his life in ruins. 16pgs. of photos + filmog. Fine/fine.

Hollywood: Warner Bros., 1928. Original Still . Paper. Original linen backed 8" x 10" candid production still of Director Michael Curtiz and Producer/Screenwriter Darryl F. Zanuck on the set of "Noah's Ark." The film was a big budget silent film epic about mixing the bibical story with a modern day romance set during the days following World War I. The large cast featured Dolores Costello and George O'Brien and featured a young unknown Myrna Loy as a slave girl. Both Curtiz and Zanuck had long and very sucessful Hollywood careers that spanned the silent years through the 50's. A rare candid of two Hollywood titans. Fine.

Hollywood: Warner Bros., 1923. Original Still . Paper. Beautiful original vintage 8" x 10" publicity portrait of the silent screen star Dolores Costello. Photo shows Costello playing with her Asiatic temple dog. Costello was a big star of the silent film era and was at one time married to John Barrymore whom she co-starred with in several silent films. She is probably most remembered today for her lovely performance in Orson Welles's great film "The Magnificent Ambersons" and for being the grandmother of Drew Barrymore. Fine.

Date in ink on the front endsheet and light rubbing to the title on the spine and a teeny nick to the bottom tip of the cover. First copy seen in five years. Published without a dustjacket. Near fine.

London: Faber & Faber, 1990. 1st Edition . Paper. The screenplay for the impressive masterpiece by Abel Gance that has had a long & strange history beginning with its premiere in 1927 and its incredible restored showing at Radio City Music Hall 54 years later. Includes scenes that were either cut or lost along with 38 stills. Small scrape to the front cover, and small remainder punched hole to the back cover, the book itself is vg. Also included is the rare 24pg. souvenir program from the restored showing that includes a fold-out of the triptych section of the film and is very well illustrated with photos and stills. A touch of very minute creasing to the corners of the front and back covers. Vg. Sold as a collection only.
