NY: Random House; (1952). First Edition . Hardcover. Stated first edition, very good+ in a very good- dust jacket. Corners are slightly bumped; page edges are a little darkened. The jacket has chips at corners and spine ends, with some loss to Clark's name at the top of the jacket spine. The jacket also has a long tear along the front edge where the spine meets the cover. The jacket is encased in a protector and looks reasonably nice. $3.95 price present on jacket flap, includes map endpapers, illustrations, appendices, and an index; 306 pages. Signed by both authors on a blank tipped in page behind the front endpaper. "The true story of the oil discovery that changed the world.

NY: Knopf., 1943. First Edition . Hardcover. Presentation label tipped in to the front endpaper is to "Col. Oveta Hobby" with the compliments of William R. Boyd, Jr., Petroleum Industry War Council Chairman. Very good in red cloth with spine a little sunned. Chapter heading sketches by Clare B. Metzger, includes appendices, one of which is an Oil Industry glossary; 174 pages. Ickes was Petroleum Administrator in WWII, and Oveta Hobby served as the first Director of the Women's Army Corps, and the first Secretary of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare when it was founded in the 1950's. Her husband, former Governor of Texas William P. Hobby, is who Hobby Airport in Houston is named for.

Minor spotting and soiling to endpapers and page edges; the jacket has slight wear and rubbing. Includes a few photos and appendices; 139 pages. Inscribed by the author on the front pastedown.

Gift inscription dated Christmas 1934 in Buenos Aires on front endpaper. A look at the local culture in Venezuela when the oil boom began there in the early 1930's.

The book itself is tight and bright, with very little wear. The price clipped jacket has a few short, closed tears at the edges. Includes some illustrations, 322 pages. Inscribed by the author on the front endpaper, with a photo of a boat affixed to the front endpaper (I'm assuming it was the boat the author alluded to in his inscription). A geologist's adventures from the Arctic to South America.

The boards are dusty at the edges, and the rear board has small white spots adhering, mainly at the edges. Light foxing to first and last few pages, and page edges are a little spotted. Includes many photographs, addenda, appendices, and an index; 483 pages. History of this oil & gas company headquartred in Tulsa.

Golden, CO: Colorado School of Mines, 1937. First Edition . Hardcover. The Foreword states that this book is a "revision of notes on this subject compiled in 1932." The book appears to be a typescript, but is fully bound in dark green cloth with no lettering on the spine or boards. Ownership name on front endpaper with both a US and an Argentinian address. Large book with numerous mathematical formulae and many diagrams. 364 numbered pages, but many page numbers have multiples (for example, page 87a through 87n are each one page). Has the look of a thesis or dissertation.

(Chicago): Author Published, 1922. First Edition . Hardcover. Very good with no dust jacket. Front hinge cracked at title page (binding is still tight), brown cloth of spine is a little roughened. Poems, most about the oil industry, with a few full page illustrations. Clean internally, with no names or other markings.

Lengthy inscription by the author on the front endpaper signed as Roger (unintelligible)/ a.k.a. Mark Atwell. A suspense novel about disaster in the North Sea oil fields. 11.95 pound price on jacket flap; no names or other marking in or on book except author's inscription.

Small, inoffensive dampstain to rear board at bottom (about the size of a dime). Map frontispiece, bibliography; 46 pages. The subtitle is "An account of the discoveries, early surveys, and regional geology of this famous Clastic of the Upper Mississippi Valley coupled with an outline of its stratigraphic correlatives in Kentucky to which are added notes on its oil and gas possibilities and a bibliography.

NY: Macaulay; (1938). First Edition . Hardcover. Good copy lacking a dust jacket. Some dampstaining on outside of boards, front hinge is cracked at title page. Small photo of an oild derrick glued to front pastedown. A fictitious account of early oil drilling in Oklahoma. The only thing that redeems this copy is a full page inscription from the author dated in April 1938 to a person who apparently helped the author in marketing the book in New York City.

Norman: University of Oklahoma Press; (1953). First Edition . Hardcover. Second printing, fine in a near fine dust jacket. The jacket has a little edgewear and one shory, closed tear at the top of the front panel. A biography of Oklahoma oil tycoon E. W. Marland, whose mansion in Ponca City is still a showplace. Includes drawings (and frontispice portrait of Marland) by J. Craig Sheppard; 259 pages. $3.75 publisher's price on front flap; no names or other writing in the book.
