Descripción:
London: John Murray, 1966. This is the first British edition, translated from the French by Frances Partridge, and published by John Murray, London. (The original French edition was awarded the Prix Guizot by the Academie Francaise.) The book is in close to Fine condition with a close to Fine non-price clipped dust jacket. The book is bound in a light green paper over boards that has some light spine-tip rubbing. It is tightly bound, clean and sparkling throughout, with no marks or tears. The dust jacket has some light edge rubbing and one small closed tear. I've placed the dust jacket into an archival Brodart protective sleeve. The book contains nine illustations, mainly photographs. The real Arthur Conan Doyle was as much a mystery as any that his fictional sleuth Sherlock Holmes solved. To unravel the mystery of the man, Pierre Nordon searched through the extensive Conan Doyle family archives and, with the help of new material and unpublished correspondence with Winston Churchill, Bernard Shaw,… Leer más

There is some spine darkening, and rubbing at the spine tips. The interiors are excellent, tightly and securely bound, with no marks or inscriptions from former owners. The pages are clean and sparkling throughout both volumes, with no stains or tears. The letters were translated from the German by J.A. Ford. A number of fold-out facsimile letters are laid in. New York: IUniverse Star, 2004. Damages is an oversized trade paperback in As New condition and signed by the author. See photo. It is a memoir about one man's fight to overcome the psychological wounds of an abusive childhood while attempting to survive in a nation, Yugoslavia, on the verge of civil war. Bazhe reveals his lonely childhood and adolescence, his 30-year seach for his biological mother, his first gay experience in the army, his desire for self-realization that causes scandals in the College of National Security, his fleeing to Turkey where he transforms into a stunning tranvestite after meeting a handsome and wealthy man, and his return to Yugoslavia, where he wanders into the underground world of a country fast dissolving into chaos. As Yugoslav nationalism and Islamic fundamentalism rise, Bazhe almost loses his life before finally escaping to America. By a special arrangement with the author, the book will be both signed and personally inscribed, as the buyer wishes. The book… Leer más

Boulder, Colorado: Sentient Publications, 2005. Although this is a Stated First Edition, the "number line" indicates that it's actually a Fifth Printing. It may also be a BCE. At any rate, the book is in New, unread condition and comes with a New dust jacket, which I've placed into an archival Brodart protective sleeve. The book includes a Foreword by Elie Wiesel. The author was a court reporter for the Nuremberg war crimes trial of Nazi doctors, and this book deals with human depravity, torture and murder in the name of scientific research and misplaced patriotism. Photos are included. (Readers should have strong stomachs.) The book is bound in black covered boards with die-stamped silver titles on the front panel and spine. The book measures 6 1/4 by 9 1/4 inches and includes 318 pages. . Hard Cover. As New/As New. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

London: Frances Lincoln, 2003. This Third Printing is in As New, unread condition, with an As New price-unclipped dust jacket. I've placed the dust jacket into an archival Brodart protective sleeve. Chatsowrth, the Duchess of Devonshire's stately home is known as much for its brilliant catering as for its palatial splendor and priceless treasures. This book contains all of the duchess's favorites, from simple soups and suppers to sumptuous, aristocratic dinners. Also included are recipes for the jams and marmalades that the duchess sells under her own label. Included with the recipes are the duchess's reminiscences, and as the youngest of the famous (and sometimes notorious) Mitford sisters, she has a lot to reminisce about. How many people have met both John F. Kennedy AND Adolf Hitler? The book is handsomely bound in decorative deep blue cloth covers with deep blue titles against a cream-colored border on the front panel and spine. New York: Simon & Schuster, 1964. This Stated First Printing (and unless it's stated, it's not) is in Very Good+ condition with a Very Good- price-clipped dust jacket. I've placed the dust jacket into an archival Brodart protective sleeve. Considering the breaches of civil liberties in our own era, this incredible story of one's man fight to reclaim his good name and reputation is as powerful today and when the events first occurred. It deals with John Henry Faulk, a popular radio and television personality of the 1950s who was blacklisted and decided to fight back against the lies, half-truths and innuendos that culminated in a history-making trial. The book is bound in a denim blue cloth cover with titles on the front panel and spine. The cloth has some fading at the edges. The binding is tight and secure. Thomas Yoseloff, 1964. First published in 1960 and critically acclaimed, this stated Third Printing from 1964 is in Fine condition, with a Very Good+ unclipped dust jacket. It's almost impossible to read about Oscar Wilde, Bernard Shaw, H.G. The fascinating biography attempts to extract the real Frank Harris from the myths he weaved about himself. The book is bound in gray cloth with black spine titles. It is tightly bound, the pages clean and bright throughout. The dust jacket has light shelf wear and several tears. I've placed the dust jacket in an archival Brodart protective sleeve.
